I remember the first time I clicked share on this photo. My anxiety overwhelmed me, nervous for the judgement that was sure to pass. Scared of what people would think. Twice I talked myself out of posting this. "Why would anyone care?" Instead, I clicked share. Walked away from my computer and decided to deal with the onslaught later. Hours later to my utter disbelief, there wasn't a single iota of negativity. People from high school who I hadn't spoken with in years, friends who I hadn't told, family members that didn't know; they commented in full support. I was left in tears. Grateful for the love shared, I was able to hold my head a little higher the next day. Have a pep in my step; a newfound confidence. Little did I know this exact photo would be shared thousands of times through the Alopecia community. It would be replicated. It would be published in print magazines. It would stand as a message to everyone who had ever felt alienated for their hair loss. It would give those very same individuals the same pep in their step that I once felt for the first time. For anyone who has lost their hair and needs to hear this: You are loved. You are incredible. You are so strong. Just hold on a second longer and believe that you will get through. "A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is brave five minutes longer." -Ralph Waldo Emerson #alopeciaawarenessmonth
