The pressure society puts on men to be masculine is suffocating, and I believe a huge factor as to why there aren’t as many guys who openly discuss their body image 💙 Men are expected to be manly, strong and never show emotion. Something which we are spoon fed from such a young age. I remember when I was a kid and I took my pink power ranger toy into school only to have it confiscated and my parents told that isn’t a ‘boy’ toy and it’s far too feminine 💙 I remember when I would get upset I would be told to ‘man up’ rather than talk about my feelings – because apparently ‘boys don’t cry’ 💙 And I remember being ridiculed for being far more artistic than I ever was athletic 💙 Toxic masculinity is rife within our society, it’s often used as a shield for the actions of men because ‘boys will be boys’ but that’s bullshit. Men are accountable for their actions and masculinity isn’t strict in its definition, despite what many would have you believe 💙 Men cry Men talk about their emotions Men are artistic Men like pink And most important men come in every form imaginable – and just because they don’t live up to yours and society’s expectations of what it means to be a man, doesn’t make them any less of one 💕 #bopo #bodypositive #bodypositivity #effyourbeautystandards #malebodypositivity #nowrongway #masculine #masculinity #toxicmasculinity #gay #gayuk #growingupgay #lgbtqia #selflove #loveyourself #donthatetheshake #beunapologeticallyyou #embracethesquish #allbodiesaregoodbodies #everybodyisbeautiful
