Three people have been hit by trains within three days across Central Scotland, spanning October 14 and 16.

The first incident took place on October 14 when a person was hit by a train between Haymarket and Edinburgh Gateway. The following day a person was hit between Stirling and Dunblane and the following day another person was hit between Paisley Gilmour Street and Glasgow Central.

Although not confirmed to be suicides, the frequency of these events has led to concern across Central Scotland on the mental wellbeing of many who are struggling during current lockdown restrictions.

Three train deaths have happened in three days across the central belt

ScotRail work alongside the rest of the rail industry with mental health charity Samaritans on the Rail Industry Suicide Prevention Plan. Since the partnership launched, 20,000 rail staff have been trained in Samaritans’ suicide prevention and support courses.

They also delivered the multi-award winning campaign “Small Talk Saves Lives,” working together with the British Transport Police (BTP) to save lives on the railways and beyond.
