Stirling Albion chairman Stuart Brown has firmly stated that he fears for the future of lower league clubs in Scotland if fans have to be tested for COVID-19 before games.

Concerns come from the cost of this action. Mass-testing would create a massive financial burden on smaller clubs who are already carrying the weight of their annual costs into next season.

Albion boss Brown believes testing fans for COVID-19 could decimate lower league football

Without their annual inputs from hospitality, social clubs, and other aspects of fundraising on a week to week basis, which are all fundamental sources of funding, Brown believes that the future could be rather bleak.

Brown said: “Clubs will find it terribly hard to remain afloat without the likes of their other incomes. Stirling Albion will survive until the end of the season, however, when next season starts, sadly we will have issues.”

The hospitality manager at Albion’s Forthbank Stadium, Jim Inglis, said: “The club loses out on a good £250,000 to £300,000 a year if this current situation continues, and it looks like it will, sadly. This is a colossal amount of money for the club to be doing without annually.”
