Football in Glasgow has certainly made the headlines in the last few weeks. Celtic gained a confidence boost after a patch of form they would rather forget when they defeated Motherwell 4-1 at Fir Park.
A Mohamed Elyounoussi’s hat-trick gave him ten for the season and a further goal from Olivier Ntcham restored Celtic’s belief that they can come through strong. Neil Lennon’s job has been considered under threat if results did not pick up sooner rather than later.
The club’s European form has fallen below the standard that is expected at Parkhead but this could be the turning point where Celtic recreate their past performances that are needed to represent the club’s ethos.
Rangers thrashed Hamilton scoring eight goals without conceding one
Lennon said after the match: “That was much better. We know that we let ourselves down on Thursday and we tried to iron out a few things in the last couple of days.”
On the other side of Glasgow, Rangers put eight goals into the academicals of Hamilton’s net giving them a nine-point lead. With two goals from Roofe and Aribo, one from Barker, and three from Tavernier, Rangers romped authority in their current wave of success.
A very happy Steven Gerrard spoke on Rangers TV after the game and said: “Really strong performance. Really pleased. I think we showed a right ruthless side to us. We were relentless from start to finish. We could’ve had a few more goals.
“On the back of a European night it’s about attitude and mentality. I made five changes and five subs and the standard and levels were really strong. It’s another three points for us and that was the main aim.”
