Scotland’s women’s football coach Shelly Kerr has been forced into self-isolation after she came into close contact with a backroom staff member who tested positive for COVID-19.

Two positive tests were found in the Scottish Under-21 squad which Kerr had been in close contact with recently. 14 days of self-isolation will be required for Kerr.

The Scottish FA has declared that none of the backroom staff had been symptomatic at any point prior to the latest testing period.

Coach Kerr will miss two critical Euro qualifiying matches

Kerr, 51, therefore can’t take the helm of her squad’s two upcoming European Qualifying matches against Portugal and Finland. The squad will now be led by assistant coach Andy Thompson.

Scottish FA chief executive Ian Maxwell spoke of Kerr’s disappointment: “Shelley is understandably devastated at not being able to be with the squad for such an important double-header.

She has prepared extensively and meticulously with her support staff.”

Kerr “will still play an active part in the preparation of the team, albeit remotely,” he continued.

“We have the utmost confidence in the players and staff to pull together and win their upcoming matches.”

Scotland’s last game was a 1-0 defeat away to Finland.

The squad needs to win both games to get to the top of the table and thus enhancing qualification chances to the championships.
