Musselburgh Racecourse still set to host a cracking day

Officials, owners, and trainers are still very much looking forward to Musselburgh Racecourse’s biggest race day of the year despite COVID restrictions still being in place.

With £125,000 in prize money on offer across the seven races on the card this is a great boost for the local racegoers, not to mention the sport itself.

Musselburgh has shown that even though we’re living through a pandemic they still have had the steadfast organizational skills to maintain their biggest day of the year as far as prize money and sponsorship is concerned.

It was first thought that the day may have turned out to be a whitewash with the loss of hospitality and the regular bars being open on course for traders, but with the kind sponsorships the course has received it now looks that even without racing fans and punters on course, the course’s biggest day of the year is still set to go down a roaring success.

Musselburgh is still on and set to provide top-notch entertainment all round

Course manager Bill Farnsworth said: “It has been a great test of our durability to maintain the course throughout this period during the pandemic, however, we were adamant right from the beginning that we would not be defeated, and so far we are still holding our flag high.

The work that has been done behind the doors is amazing. I want to thanks the East Lothian council and the Lothian Racing Syndicate for their endless support and I also want to thank the Musselburgh Joint Racing Committee. Without the support of these groups of people, Musselburgh could never be maintained to the top-class standard that it is today.”

Kinross trainer Lucinda Russell has stated that she is looking forward to the meeting and has confirmed that all is in place for her former course winner Mint Gold to go for the two-mile, four-furlong chase on the day.

Lucinda said: “Musselburgh is a great course for horses being tested between two miles and three miles in their racing. It has that original galloping straight but strangely enough, the fences also seem to come very close together. From that perspective, the course is quite unique in many ways.”

Lucinda also said of her recent course winner Mint Gold: “Since coming back after her recent win at the course Mint Gold has been eating well, galloping well and all is in line as far as her preparation for her next race which again will be at the Musselburgh meeting in early December. There is an attractive two-mile four-furlong chase there which should suit the horse right down to the ground.”

So, from all perspectives to do with a good day of racing it looks like December 7 is a day to be at Musselburgh Racecourse on what is their biggest of the year. In the current pandemic-filled year racing goes ahead for what looks to be a cracker for all involved.
