In the opening game of the season it’s Hearts of Midlothian who’ve landed running with a 6-2 win over Dundee. In a game that saw eight goals in total it was a one-sided affair by the half.
When the game started it was not long until Hearts had set the precedent for the evening’s proceedings with a goal from Michael Smith who fired hard and low into the Dees net after just two minutes.
The Jambos stretched that lead to 2-0 just 20 minutes later when Josh Ginnelly created an opening for himself from a ball that was in the air after some confusion in midfield. He latched onto the free ball and struck a tremendous shot low and hard into the right-hand corner of the Dundee goal.
The Dees were not for laying down though and at this all-important stage of the game they found Charlie Adam creating some brilliant play by making his way past a number of Hearts players and finish with a wonderful shot from 18 yards past Hearts keeper Craig Gordon. He could only watch as the ball wisped past him into the net making it 2-1 and giving the Tayside club a fighting chance just before the half.

Hearts trounced Dundee 6-2 in the season-opening grudge match
On that mark it was down to Hearts to step up the gears again. They did, as Liam Boyce dropped off a defender and swayed his way to make a shot for himself which was parried away by the hand of Dundee defender Jordan Marshall, leaving the referee David Munro with no other choice but to point to the penalty spot.
Boyce stepped up and coolly slotted the ball into the net giving Hearts the 3-1 lead on the 35th minute of the game. With the referee having the half time whistle literally in his mouth Hearts also made it 4-1 right on the last kick of the ball in the first half. The referee had awarded Hearts a free-kick, and Jack Hamilton pushed a calculated shot into the roof of the Dundee net from 20 yards.
The Dees were first to hit the net in the second half but were also leaving it late to regain anything from the game. After 68 minutes substitute forward Danny Mullen chipped a lovely ball into the net over Gordon to give his side a glimmer of hope.
However from here on into the end of the game it was extremely visible that Hearts were most certainly the better team gaining the upper hand with some great link play which was leading to chances.
In the last 15 minutes Boyce, Kingsley and Halliday were exceptional for Hearts and as part of their hard work, the rewards arrived after Kingsley blasted a remarkable goal into the top hand corner of the Dundee net to the raptures of the happy crowd.
Halliday then put the final nail in the Dundee coffin with a fine goal right in the 90th minute giving Hearts not only a very convincing victory over their main rivals for the championship this season but also some revenge for the scars that they bared from Dundee last season.
