The Princess Royal has been a regular visitor to Strathcarron Hospice since 1984 on an almost annual basis, earning her the title of “the Hospice Visitor”. After having been welcomed by Lord-Lieutenant of Falkirk and Stirling, Mr Alan Simpson, she was introduced to Miss Irene McKie, the Chief Executive of Strathcarron Hospice.
Princess Anne spent time with 50 day-care patients, chatting about their lives and experiences of the Hospice. She then continued her visit into the in-patient unit where she spent time at the bedside of patients and their families. As the Hospice Visitor, she has become familiar with many of the staff members and volunteers and takes the time and interest to remember some personal details. During this time her interest in its work and her concern for those suffering from cancer has provided great comfort to countless patients and tremendous support to the staff.

It has now become Strathcarron tradition for the kitchen staff to present Princess Royal with a gift of homemade shortbread.
