Let’s get down to business

You’ll be pleased to know that I briefly considered naming this post “How to defeat the Huns in 5 steps” before begrudgingly accepting that this might lead to some minor misunderstandings. But if you were one of the people who couldn’t help themselves from filling in the blanks after that familiar string of words, you’ve come to the right place.

One fateful day in the year 2015, a group of remarkable people noticed that the Student’s Union had forgotten about a fundamentally important aspect of human life that needed its due representation. And thus, the Disney Appreciation Society was born.

But what does a Disney Appreciation Society do, you might ask. It’s a valid question, considering “they appreciate Disney” probably won’t cover it. It really is all about meeting like-minded people who enjoy those animated classics, as well as all other franchises Disney has bought to allow for unlimited amount of enjoyment. Because who isn’t instantly transported back into their childhood bedroom, wailing at the TV as Simba tries to wake his “sleeping” father while their parents record the genuine terror their child is feeling for future blackmail purposes? Oh, that’s just me? Maybe that’s just me.

Anyway.

The Disney Appreciation Society does not, in fact, spend their entire time together watching movies (even though it is a great bonding experience). They also organise pub crawls, dinners, sponsored walks, and other fun past time activities. This year, you’d be just in time to experience some fun new events such as Disney karaoke and a murder mysteries night! And in terms of meeting new people, you’ll be happy to hear that there are quite a few collaborations with other societies, such as musical nights with the Musical Theatre Society, that will help you do just that.

If you’re as excited by this as I am, you are invited to come along to meet the society and its members on Thursdays 7:30pm – 9:30pm and experience a whole new world, and a new exciting point of view. No one to tell you no, or where to go, or say you’re only dreaming. A whole new woooooo-

For more information, visit their Facebook page, or if you’re more into post-millennial social media, check out their Instagram. And obviously, if you were just here to read more about how to defeat those Huns, there’s only one way to find out: join and solve the mystery.
