Haydn Symphony 49 F minor

Adagio: mysterious to say the least. Second theme is a lovely song, full of quietly intense passion.

Allegro di molto: bustle again – very restless. Some nice sustained chord progressions above the bustle. This feels like a Haydn characteristic.

Menuet: Hardly a jolly dance this time. Lovely horn & oboe contributions. The Trio is a warm contrast. The return to the more austere minuet is quite marked.

Presto: This Haydn doing story telling – drama with flashes of light. Start p for all of 6 bars, then f and marcato. That sets the tone.
