Haydn Symphony 46 B major

Vivace: Feels slightly more controlled than others from this period.

Poco adagio: Restless, inventive and full of nice colours but an overall dark effect. Doesn’t move me much though. The second half has some very nice moments.

Menuet: This is interesting – and the Trio is very effective. In this one, Haydn is playing with the ambiguity between a lilting song and a dance.

Finale (Presto e scherzando): To be honest, feels a little bit academic.
