The Gender Research Group brings together a large number of academics and researchers from different subject areas whose work on gender has become a robust element of scholarly activity at the University of Stirling.
This Research Group builds on the history of the important scholars and the accomplished work in the field of Gender, Feminist and Queer Studies across the University that has been instrumental in founding the Gender Studies MLitt/MSc programme. It is one of the Arts and Humanities Research Group and is based in the Division of Communications, Media and Culture.
The Gender Studies Research group is contributed to and developed by leading specialists who are passionately engaged with gender, feminist and queer issues across a range of interdisciplinary subjects ranging from: film, media and literary studies, sports, sociology, history, languages, philosophy, curation and politics.
Directed by Darren Elliott-Smith (Senior Lecturer in Film and Gender) the group showcases research in relation to Gender at the University and across the world and hosts a series of events and academic blog publications throughout the year. It is also home to the Gender Studies Film Club (co-curated by Stirling staff and students), the University of Stirling Feminist Reading Group, and the Queer Fears Network (an emerging academic network of scholars, filmmakers and fans of Queer Horror Film and Television).
