How to participate

There are two ways to participate in this project and to contribute to it: you can either choose to participate in a writing workshop with other participants (Group workshop). Or you can choose to write down your experiences and memories in response to a writing prompt at your own convenience (Individual writing).

If you agree to take part in this project, I will share some images, press cuttings or short quotes from the debate with you. These might show marches or town hall meetings, describe public debates or include memories from festivals and artistic events. The images and short texts will be a starting point to think about your own memories, to think about whether you agree or disagree with what they show and describe, whether that is something you experienced yourself or were told about by others. You will then be invited to write down these thoughts, experiences, and memories of the referendum campaign. You can write as little or as much as you would like about your own experiences, how you participated in campaigning initiatives, grassroots rallies and local events or simply how you remember the debate. There is no right or wrong answer. Instead, you are invited to share a personal account of the referendum campaign and contribute your memories to this project – no specific knowledge or prior writing experience are needed. The only prerequisite is that you remember the referendum and were in Scotland at the time of the referendum campaign.
