A pub chain in Edinburgh is going above and beyond to tackle the deluge of clothing that is sent to landfill.
Sofi’s bar in Leith holds clothes swaps every few months. These events ask for a donation of £5, which goes to charity, and in return customers can help themselves to as many items of clothes as they like.
The popularity of these events is growing exponentially, leading to the bars having more clothes than they can handle. Any clothes that are not swapped are donated to Leith Academy for those who cannot afford new clothes.
Tackling our ‘throwaway culture’ is important to Bodabars, and is the main reason these events began ten years ago, owner Anna Christopherson says.
