Information on economic and financial abuse is very available. However, we have been reviewing existing content generated in the anglophone reality. We focused specifically on content (journal articles, reports, videos, websites, images and much more) produced by UK based organisations and institutions. So far we have identified two major limitations:
- Gendered Narrative: whereas US and Australian (example video later on) content tends to be more generic in their explanation of economic abuse and uses this term interchangeably with financial abuse (but not financial coercion), UK-based content tends to only focus on women which are in a heterosexual violent relation.
- Language: while other sources in other countries (such as Italy) translate and adapt their information acknowledging different cultures and languages, UK-based content is difficult to grasp for someone that lacks cultural cues. All information is also offered in English and is seldom available in other languages.
There is generally an issue of narrative, language and cultural aspects that should be considered.
