Different people interpret abuse differently. Talking with survivors-turned-activities from different cultural backgrounds and nationalities, we understood the complexity of the term ‘abuse’. There are issues to consider that make a honest conversation about economic abuse difficult. At times impossible. Therefore, we have decided to approach the subject from another angle: that of financial literacy and playfulness. We are currently researching these two aspects in relation to preventive communication strategies. We are therefore developing simple text-based and visual-based games to test playfulness, awareness and game-based learning that are country-specific. Each will be distributed using online and offline platforms differently. There are three main characters; Jo, Nour and Nguyen. There are no gendered connotations because economic abuse doesn’t recognise gender. This page is constantly being updated so watch the space.

  1. Play “J0&Jez” Help Jo make the right financial decisions  (UK)

This game can be downloaded and launched or, when prompted, click “play in browser”.

The game asks you to help a character, Jo, navigate their difficult financial situation and opt for best solutions. Jo has a best friend and partner in crime Jez, who has always a lot of ideas  on how to manage finances. While they both get by, life could be just a little bit easier! Help Jo choose whether to ask for a loan or some government support package, whether to listen to Jez’s ideas and solutions  or ignore them. Choose whether a 24% APR on a 24 months loan is too high and too low and whether online saving platforms should be the way forward for Jo.

Once you make a choice on Jo’s behalf, you cannot go back and change your selections so read carefully and consider the multiple options.

The game is free and no data is stored or recorded.
