Introduction – Dan McCallum

Hi everyone!

My name’s Dan McCallum, and I’m from London although I stay in Stirling right now. I’m still undecided on what to do for my dissertation – at the moment I’m interested in either the influence of the Ukrainian far-right on global anti-communism during the Cold War, religious resistance to Spanish colonialism in the Andes, or a study of the class basis of the American far-right. Would be really interested in talking to anyone looking at similar topics! Online learning is pretty weird, and can be kind of hard to pay attention to – hopefully this will get easier with time.

Introduction

Hi everyone, My name is Simon and I’m from Dumbarton which isn’t too far from Glasgow. I still haven’t come to decision on what to write for my Dissertation but i am mostly interested in European history. The online teaching hasn’t been as bad as i first thought it would be, but i do sometimes struggle to keep myself motivated.

Molly McAllister – Introduction

Hi everyone! I’m Molly and I live in a small town called Clydebank just outside Glasgow. I’m currently thinking of writing my dissertation about the Viking period – specifically the conversion to Christianity – however I am still undecided so far. As for online learning, before the pandemic I commuted to University so online learning has been helpful in the sense that I don’t have to travel all the time. I do miss the social aspects of university though such as lectures and meeting people in seminars and I hope everything returns to normal soon.

Introduction

My name is Catriona and I’m from a small village in Perthshire but currently live in Edinburgh. In terms of dissertation themes, I am interested in the history of gender, race or sexuality. It’s been a real struggle for me to remain motivated while learning online!

Introduction

Hi I’m Declan and I’m from a small town called Duns in the Scottish Borders. I currently have not decided exactly what I would like to research for my dissertation. At the moment I am considering mainly between the Third Crusade and Augustus. I personally don’t mind online teaching but i do prefer face to face seminars as I feel a lot more productive and engaged.

Introduction

Hi guys, my names Thomas and I’m from Newcastle. For my dissertation, I am struggling to pick a topic due to the vastness of the subject. My main interests in history take place within the 20th century. Thus, I am looking into events such as the Russian revolution and the First World War, without trying to find topics that are too generic. As for online teaching, it has been far better than I anticipated. However, it can sometimes be hard to keep engaged.

Introduction – Shannon Murphy

Tell us where you are from, what sort of history or heritage dissertation you are currently thinking of doing and how you’ve been coping with distance learning?

Hi everyone, my name is Shannon and I live in Glasgow. I’m not 100% sure on what topic I’d like to focus on for my dissertation but it would most preferably be something to do with the impact of Nazi Germany during WW2. I find online learning pretty difficult, it’s hard to keep yourself motivated and focussed learning from your room and I struggle to separate myself from excessive screen time because of this. However I think I have been learning to cope with it a bit more recently.
