Let’s Bounce and Bend!
“Happy is the man who is living by his hobby” – George Bernard Shaw.
The University of Stirling may have many sports clubs and societies, but one of the most energetic of the bunch is the Trampolining and Gymnastics sports club.
They spend the majority of their week working on their skills and strength to perform to the best of their ability, but also to have fun.
Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday is dedicated to trampolining, whilst Wednesday and Saturday focuses on gymnastics. Classes vary between 120 to 150 minutes, depending on the day, and include members of different ability and skill level.
The team captain, Ellis Kennedy, explains that many club members haven’t always been so advanced. “Most of our club have never been on a trampoline before joining” she explains. “It’s so amazing to see the progress that they make during their time at the club.”
Watching them all is mind blowing. They manage to twist and flip themselves so quickly and so beautifully. It’s like watching a circus act in a smaller environment.
Everyone seems incredibly close, which clearly brings up the team spirit as they clap and urge each other to do the best that they can each time one of them hops onto the trampoline or goes to the gymnastics mat. There is no negativity in the gym, making it a safe and enjoyable place to be.
Kennedy has already told me that the club “prides themselves on being a friendly and inclusive club”, and seeing the atmosphere proves that.
If you fancy being the next greatest showman (bad joke), just check out their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
