Ready for the waves, steady, go!

I still remember it as if it were yesterday: My first time standing on a surf board and catching a wave. The feeling was indescribable and unique, I was so close, it felt as though I was one with nature. Since then surfing has won over my heart and become my greatest passion. Here are 5 undeniable reasons why you should start surfing today.

1. Body, mind and soul fitness

Surfing is one of the most complex sports in the world and definitely counts as a full-body workout. It strengthens and tones your arms, core, back, butt and legs. However, surfing is not only about strength, it also improves your stamina, flexibility, balance and is an excellent way to clear your head. As a result, you’ll be more relaxed and become more aware and have more balance and control over your body. Most importantly of course: It’s a lot of fun!

 2. Around the world

The best surf spots are spread around the world. Therefore, surfers get to travel and meet lots of people from different countries, with different backgrounds and cultures. This exposes them to new experiences and helps them become more open-minded and aware of the diversity around the world. Moreover, they get to explore the world’s most exquisites’ destinations, breathtaking beaches and unforgettable sunsets. Thanks to surfers’ exciting travels, they always seem to have a good story to tell and they can give you the best travel advice on where to spend your next seaside adventure.

3. Surf culture

Surfing it’s not just a sport, it’s a lifestyle! Its origin dates back to the 60’s in Southern California and guess what, surfing even has its own music. Who doesn’t know the Beach Boys or Jack Johnson? Exactly, everyone knows them! In addition, there are several fashion brands that originated from the surf culture and which sell some darn trendy surf clothing. Due to the fact that surfing is a lifestyle, people practicing this sport usually share common interests, connecting them to a great sense of community.

4. Beach therapy

Spending the whole day at the beach, just in comfortable bikinis, beach wear and board shorts – that’s exactly what surfers do. Vitamin D and sea salt is not only good for the body, it also improves the well-being of our minds: The beach helps to unwind and reduces stress levels. That explains why surfers have such an easygoing attitude and always seem so relaxed and content with their lives.

5. A breath of freedom

A lot of people have a great respect for surfing and seem to let their fears get in the way. Unfortunately, on the one hand many people have never tried surfing, because it’s an extreme sport and the ocean cannot be tamed. On the other hand, the brave few, who have tried surfing, automatically feel braver, because they know what it feels like to go beyond their own limits and by overcoming their fears, they learn to expand their horizons. This heightens their self-confidence and allows them to believe that they can achieve anything they set their minds to and nothing can stop them. Especially not the waves, they were put there to be surfed and surfed they will be.
