Make a change, be the difference

Spoiler alert: global warming is real!

Environmental issues bear upon all of us, whether we admit it or not. The evidence is real, it is tangible and it screams for a change. The Earth has undergone radical changes in its climate several times over the course of history and periods such as ice ages or extreme droughts are the proof of that. Recent scientific research, however, shows that since the 20th century climate changes have been caused solely by humans (NASA, 2018). The future of our planet lies in our hands and we have precisely every moment available to make sure that its beauty, richness and fertility stays accessible to the next generations as it has been to us.

It’s about balance

In nature everything is linked and it is extremely easy to upset the unique balance of the natural cycles that are so vital for the life of all species on Earth. Including us. In example, the more deforestation is happening the less natural ability the Earth has to regulate the pollution caused by industry, cars or coal burning, therefore, more carbon dioxide goes into the atmosphere, stays there and traps sun rays which in turn heat up the whole planet and cause global warming. In reality, the process is so much more complex and there are many other factors contributing towards the global rise in temperature.

The domino effect

Yet, the rise in temperature is only another part of the linkage in the effects of human activity on the environment. Global warming is accountable for numerous consequences that occur once the natural order was upset; warming oceans, shrinking ice sheets or extreme events, which are all followed by serious of other magnitudes that impact the Earth’s bio-systems. This again illustrates how important it is to preserve the natural order and how immensely multifaceted the consequences of upset nature are.

How can you take a part?

The club meets two times a week, on Mondays and Tuesdays at 6.30pm in the Atrium building. On Mondays, a food huddle is held where members bring homemade food to share with the others. As the society’s objective is to promote sustainable and environment-friendly ways of living, the food prepared and consumed during the huddles is always vegetarian or vegan. Tips and useful advice as well as news or concerns are shared and discussed at the table while people snack on brought goods. While on Mondays the atmosphere is very relaxed and light, on Tuesdays it tends to get more serious and there is clear focus on a particular topic that is debated. There is a lot to learn at every session as the knowledge and passion for green and sustainable future of all the members is multiplied when they meet. Don’t hesitate and come and check it out for yourself!

Thanks for reading guys! Don’t forget to check the Environmental Enterprises Facebook page to find out more about their exciting activities and remember: you are only one step away from making the difference…
